Riley Family Library (Daytime/Evening/Weekend) Volunteers assist library patrons with the use of library materials and equipment. Riley Safety Store (Daytime; Monday-Friday) Volunteers assist with mailings, packet preparation, and providing information and assistance to customers. Cleaning Coins (One-time opportunity) Volunteers fetch, clean, and dry the coins that are thrown into the fountains in the atrium lobby located in Riley Hospital for Children. Riley Gift Shop (Daytime; Monday-Friday) Volunteers assist staff by stocking and inventorying merchandise, assisting customers, and creating a quality-customer service environment. Recovery Room (day/evening) Volunteers assist staff by locating families within the recovery room, while proactively greeting and visiting with families whose child is in surgery. General responsibilities include: assisting with clerical tasks, escorting family members throughout the hospital, and setting up a beds for patients as needed. For more information, Ronald McDonald House (Link to http://www.rmh-indiana.org/) Direct Patient Contact OpportunitiesUnit-Patient Liaison Programs (UPL) (Daytime/Evening/Weekend) Unit-patient liaison volunteers are assigned to inpatient units within Riley Hospital to provide signature customer and support services to patients, families, visitors, and staff through a general desire for direct volunteer-patient interaction. UPL responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, rounding throughout the unit to check on patients, answering call lights and communicating the patients need to the proper staff member, stocking unit closets, assisting patients with ordering Classic Cuisine menus, visiting with patients and families, preparing unit welcome packets, and general clerical duties related to the unit. Opportunity requires good communication skills, self-motivation and ability to work independently, extensive walking, and a general sensitivity towards appropriate patient-volunteer experience. Child Life Volunteer (Daytime/Weekend) Volunteers work with a Child Life specialist in a group or individual setting to provide patients with play and diversion activities that will reduce stress and anxiety. General responsibilities include: assisting with the preparation of activities, cleaning and organizing equipment, and various clerical tasks. Opportunity requires strong communication skills, a desire to interact with youth, and extensive mobility. School Program (Daytime; During the School Year) Volunteers tutor Riley patients on an individual basis or in a small group in an effort to maintain educational consistency. General responsibilities include: assisting patients with homework (reading, writing, and math) assigned by the Riley School Program staff. Opportunity requires strong communication skills, ability to work with youth of various ages (K-12), and extensive walking. Magic Castle Cart (Evening/Weekend) Volunteer drives/pushes the Magic Castle Cart to the inpatient units within Riley, entertaining the patients and providing gifts and activities from the castle. Limited Patient Contact OpportunitiesReading with Riley Program Corporate businesses send employees to Riley to read to the patients and families within the Riley Outpatient Center. Local businesses sign up for a one-year commitment of sending one or two employees, one day per week to Riley to read a pre-selected children's story. Volunteer Interpreter Program (VIP) (Daytime/Evening/Weekend)
Volunteer interpreters assist the Language Services department with interpretations for limited English-speaking patients and visitors within Clarian facilities and document translations. Opportunity requires successful completion of a medical interpreting class ("Bridging the Gap") and a thorough interview conducted by the manager of Language Services. Volunteers in Medicine (VIM) (Daytime/Evening/Weekend) Retired medical and nursing professionals volunteer their time within Clarian facilities to assist nursing and medical staff with day-to-day operations.
