All transport team nurses are certified in Advanced Pediatric Life Support (APLS); Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS); Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP); and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).

Physicians

The physician staff is composed of senior pediatric/medical-pediatrics residents; and neonatal, pediatric pulmonology and pediatric cardiology fellows as well as community pediatricians who have continued to work with the Transport Team while in practice. There are either two physicians or a physician and a neonatal nurse practitioner (NNP) on staff 24 hours a day. The physician team is NRP, PALS, APLS and ACLS certified. Neonatology, pediatric pulmonology and pediatric intensivists from Riley and Methodist Hospitals consult on every patient with the transport physician or neonatal nurse practitioner.

Neonatal Nurse Practitioners

The Neonatal nurse practitioners (NNP) work on the Transport Team and staff the Riley and Wishard Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). They attend deliveries at Wishard Hospital and Indiana University Hospital. They rotate through the nurseries and transport to retain a high skill level and have diverse newborn experience. All the NNP staff are eligible or have their NNP and NRP certifications.

Emergency Medical Technicians

The transport team is assisted with emergency medical technicians. They are specially trained in driving the Mobile Intensive Care Units and are an integral part of the clinical team. The EMT staff spend considerable time in the pediatric emergency room, the NICU and the PICU. They assist with many of the details of patient care as well as parent counseling at the local hospitals. Many are advanced EMTs, Paramedics or RN students.

Registered Respiratory Therapists

The transport team also utilizes Registered Respiratory Therapists. They have experience in Newborn and Pediatric ICU along with extensive training and experience in transports. Transport Respiratory Therapists carry certifications in CPR, Advance Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, and Neonatal Resuscitation. Most have obtained the Perinatal/Pediatric Specialist credential from the National Board of Respiratory Care. Their skills in airway and ventilator management are very valuable to the Transport Team.
