MissionThe mission of the Riley Safety Store is to make safety affordable and accessible to families of all children by offering a comprehensive and inclusive inventory of low-cost child safety products and providing families with convenient access to accurate and up-to-date child injury prevention education. ProfileThe Riley Safety Store, launched in 2005, was the first children's hospital-based Safety Store in the nation to serve families of all children, including children with disabilities or special health care needs, and offers families, staff and the general public access to injury prevention education and a broad inventory of low-cost or free child safety products. Research, field testing, surveys, data review and suggestions from families and Riley Hospital for Children staff help guide the selection of safety products and offering of education, information and safety products needed to prepare for safe escape from fires, disasters or other emergencies. ExpansionA 224-square-foot expansion and renovation in 2009 allows the Riley Safety Store to serve more families, showcase more safety products and provide more hands-on education. The expansion and renovation allowed for the creation of different zones that simulate home settings, providing families with the opportunity to practice installation and use of child safety products prior to purchase. GrowthRiley Safety Stores are located at several Clarian Health statewide affiliate hospital locations as well as at The Children's Museum of Indianapolis. The Riley Safety Store also serves as a blueprint for children's hospitals nationwide, with 11 children's hospitals having been trained to launch Safety Stores in the last two years by Riley Hospital's Safety Store Team in partnership with the National Association of Children's Hospitals and Related Institutions.
