Playground Safety

There are many playgrounds for children across Indiana. Are playgrounds where you live safe and accessible for all children?

As part of Riley Hospital's commitment to injury prevention and mobility for all children, we provide resources to community partners to help support the planning, building, and offering of playground settings that are safe and accessible. On playgrounds, all children gain the chance to engage in physical activity, social interaction with peers, and creative play that challenges the imagination. Parents and professionals need to be informed advocates for children on how playground settings should be designed for all children and to help prevent the risk of injury. The Dirty Dozen presentation and links provided here are tools to assist caring adults in their efforts to speak up for all children in communities everywhere to issue a call to change when necessary so that children have the chance to be able to be able to exercise and play on playgrounds that are safe and open to all.

If you download and use the Dirty Dozen presentation, please give us feedback to help us continue to monitor the effectiveness of our tools and resources. Let us know your audience, numbers of people in your audience, and usefulness of this presentation in meeting your needs by emailing kids1st@iupui.edu.
