Rules Outside the Bus are FollowedSelect a safe place away from traffic where your child should wait quietly for the bus. Teach your child to approach the bus only after it is completely stopped. When entering or leaving the bus, children should look both ways before crossing the street. Children should take 10 giant steps away from the bus before crossing in front of the bus. If your child drops something in front of the bus, he or she should wait until the bus driver sees him before retreiving the article. Rules Inside the Bus are FollowedChildren should enter the bus in single file; go directly to a seat and sit down; talk quietly; stay seated while the bus is moving; keep the aisles clear; keep heads, arms, hands, and legs inside the bus at all times; and carry papers in a folder or backpack so they do not slip out of his or her hands. Children with Special Needs are ProtectedMany children with special needs will be transported on special school buses. However they are transported special adaptions may have to be considered such as: wheelchair lifts and tiedowns, adaptive seating, length of bus ride, and bus driver/aide training on special healthcare needs such as emergency tracheostomy changes and oxygen requirements.
