Selecting a Babysitter

Checklist for selecting a good babysitter for your child:

The person truly wants to take care of a baby.
The person is not short-tempered.
The person has realistic expectations about how babies behave.
The person was not abused in his or her past.
The person is trained in CPR and has basic first aid knowledge.
The person has had past experience with children.
The person is not currently experiencing outside stressors that could lead to shaken baby syndrome.
Do a criminal background check.
Discuss the possible baby-sitter's discipline style.
Tell the person not to shake your baby under any circumstances.
