Checklist for selecting a good babysitter for your child:
- The person truly wants to take care of a baby.
- The person is not short-tempered.
- The person has realistic expectations about how babies behave.
- The person was not abused in his or her past.
- The person is trained in CPR and has basic first aid knowledge.
- The person has had past experience with children.
- The person is not currently experiencing outside stressors that could lead to shaken baby syndrome.
- Do a criminal background check.
- Discuss the possible baby-sitter's discipline style.
- Tell the person not to shake your baby under any circumstances.
