Selecting a Babysitter

Checklist for selecting a good babysitter for your child:

  • The person truly wants to take care of a baby.
  • The person is not short-tempered.
  • The person has realistic expectations about how babies behave.
  • The person was not abused in his or her past.
  • The person is trained in CPR and has basic first aid knowledge.
  • The person has had past experience with children.
  • The person is not currently experiencing outside stressors that could lead to shaken baby syndrome.
  • Do a criminal background check.
  • Discuss the possible baby-sitter's discipline style.
  • Tell the person not to shake your baby under any circumstances.
