Stroup recognized with Citation AwardDr. Karen Bruner Stroup, Director of Riley Hospital Community Education and Child Advocacy, was recognized by Indiana Family and Consumer Sciences (INDFACS) at the organization's state conference in Indianapolis on September 25, 2009 at the Wyndham Hotel. Dr. Stroup received the Citation Award, given to an individual outside the organization, for her leadership and partnerships with the organization over time to forge statewide development and delivery of new programs and education resources in child health, fitness, and safety. "Riley Hospital's long-term partnership with Indiana's statewide network of Family and Consumer Science teachers has been a valued asset and strength contributing to our success and effectiveness in creating relevant and effective tools and resources for community partners and advocates," says Dr. Stroup. Riley Hospital at Foster Parents ConferenceJacqueline Jones, Education Associate for Riley Community Education and Child Advocacy, represented the Riley Safety Store on September 23 at the Villages of Indiana’s 2009 Dan Fulton Training Conference, “Cherish the Children…Nurture the Caregivers!” for foster parents at the Marriott® Indianapolis East. Jones showcased child safety products and education resources of the Riley Safety Store, which provides education and child safety products at cost, to help show and promote awareness of "an important resource for foster parents to help them keep their homes safe for all children and to learn more about how to practice safety every day," says Jones. The Riley Safety Store is open to families, staff, and the general public Monday through Friday, 9 am to 4 pm, inside the Over the Rainbow Gift Shop in the Riley Outpatient Center. Riley Hospital Jumps at World Day of PlayCommunity Education and Child Advocacy represented Riley Hospital at the World Day of Play at The Children's Museum of Indianapolis on Saturday, September 26, 2009, from 10 am to 3 pm. Sandy Loper and Megan Fager, Community Outreach Educators with Community Education and Child Advocacy, staffed the Riley Hospital display and challenged Museum visitors to jump rope and learn more about the Jump Kids Jump Movement (see www.jumpkidsjump.org). The DVD, "Get Jumpin," one of the Movement's education resources, also played on Museum plasma screens. Jump Kids Jump at Free Thursday Night at Children's MuseumSarah Lauer, Community Outreach Educator with Community Education and Child Advocacy, staffed the Riley Hospital display at the Free Thursday Night at The Children's Museum of Indianapolis on Thursday, October 1, 2009, from 4 pm to 8 pm. Lauer promoted the Jump Kids Jump Movement (www.jumpkidsjump.org) to Museum visitors of all ages and abilities who joined with her in learning about the Movement and in practicing jump roping. The DVD, "Get Jumpin," also demonstrated different jump rope skills on Museum plasma screens.
