ResearchAn IUPUI Signature Center has been created entitled PREGMED, The Indiana University Center for Pharmacogenetics and Therapuetics Research in Women's and Children's Health. The goal of the Center is to develop individualized therapy in pregnancy and early childhood. The way that pregnant women and their children respond to medications is poorly understood. Current research projects focus on peripartum mood disorders, nausea and vomiting in pregnancy, and premature labor. More details can be found at the website: www.pregmed.org. The Herman B Wells Center for Pediatric Research, or Wells Center, supports both basic discovery research and "translational" studies, which seek to rapidly move basic or bench research findings into the clinical setting. The overall goals are to discover the causes and mechanisms of serious pediatric diseases, to develop cutting-edge approaches to diagnose and treat childhood diseases, and to provide an outstanding training environment for medical and graduate students, residents, and fellows. The research programs of the Neonatology faculty in the Wells Center focus on blood cell development and genetic blood cell diseases, cancer biology, gene therapy, growth and metabolism, and cardiopulmonary physiology and development. More details can be found at the website: www.wellscenter.iupui.edu. The division of Neonatology also participates in the National Institute of Child and Human Development Neonatal Research Network. This multi-center network of level III NICUs allows for large-scale clinical research in the field of neonatology, advancing the care of premature and ill newborns across the country. Members of the Neonatal faculty also are actively involved in research in the fields of neonatal nutrition and metabolism. Quality improvement research is also actively pursued in the clinical field. |
