The Riley Pain Center offers comprehensive chronic pain management services to infants, children and adolescents whose persistent pain is associated with a coexisting chronic disease, an injury, sports activity, or surgery. Patients are seen in The Riley Pain Center by way of a primary care physician or specialist referral. Studies have shown that effective pain management can not only decrease a patient's pain intensity but also enhance his or her daily function and overall quality of life. In addition, physicians and various health care organizations are increasingly incorporating clinical practice guidelines for pain management into standards of care as a way to improve clinical outcomes. Under the medical direction of Dr. Eric Scott, a member of the Riley Pediatric Anesthesia Section, the pediatric pain center employs a multidisciplinary, integrative approach to pain treatment that takes into account a patient's physical, psychological and social well being. To this end, the pain center staff includes practitioners from various health and wellness disciplines, including a board-certified pediatric pain medicine specialist, a clinical nurse specialist, physical therapists, occupational therapists, nutritionists and pediatric psychologists. Please direct any inquiries or patient referrals to The Riley Pain Center at (317) 278-7040. |
