The Riley Pediatric Hospitalist Program is the gateway to general admission and specialty care. What is a Hospitalist?A hospitalist is a doctor who specializes in caring for people in the hospital. A pediatric hospitalist further specializes in the care of newborns and hospitalized children. As faculty members of Indiana University School of Medicine, our team members provide the most advanced pediatric medicine in the field. They are experts in the care of inpatients, from the most common diagnosis to the most complex cases. Our hospitalists can focus solely on caring for children and families at Riley since they do not have private practices or other clinics outside the hospital. Hospitalists use a team approachRiley hospitalists are available to facilitate the best care for your patients admitted to Riley directly from your office, your local emergency department or those treated in our Riley Emergency Department. A single telephone call to Physician OneCall connects you to the Riley Hospitalist at any of our facilities. While your patients are hospitalized at Riley, they remain your patients. The Hospitalist Program partners with you, arranges consults with Riley specialists and rounds with other interdisciplinary team members to provide comprehensive, family-centered care to your patients and assure quality clinical outcomes. In addition, the Riley Pediatric Hospitalist Program improves continuity of care by ensuring you receive the details you need about your patient's admission in a timely manner. Waiting weeks for a dictated summary simply isn't acceptable. When your patient is discharged, you will receive a brief inpatient Summary from the Hospitalist Program that includes the information you need to continue care. Then, you're prepared, whether follow up is the next day or the next month.
