A major part of the care of the child with diabetes is healthy nutrition. Our team of Registered Dietitians specializes in diabetes education and is up to date on the latest dietary research and guidelines.

When your child is first diagnosed, one of our dietitians will sit down with you and discuss your child's eating patterns, likes and dislikes, and you two will come up with guidelines for a meal plan.

Our goal is to help you and your child understand and adapt to the daily care needs of diabetes. This includes adjusting diabetes management to your child's individual food and activity schedule. Your child can continue to make food choices the same as any other child, including eating birthday cake and other sweets you may have assumed were no longer allowed.

The following pages offer practical information that you can use to help your child eat like other children yet stay within guidelines and continue to have good control of diabetes.

Our Dietitians are available to answer questions related to your child's meal plan from Monday though Friday 8am - 5pm. Call your Dietitian's office and leave your question and they will return your call as soon as they can.

USDA Search for Common Foods - very easy to use. Type in food item in question and select "submit". Important to note that the first serving listed for all food items is for a 100 gram portion. Use the portion selections below for more accurate readings (usually includes a choice equal to the standard serving size for that food item).
