Pediatric Dentistry at Riley HospitalA dental facility first opened at Riley Hospital in 1926. Managerial responsibility was transferred from oral surgery to the Pediatric Dental department in the 1950s. Dr. Ralph E. McDonald was appointed the first chair of the department with Dr. Cosmo Castaldi as the first director of Riley Dental Clinic. Progressive expansion of the Riley Dental Clinic in the 1960s and 1970s made it possible to offer a wide range of services to patients. The 12 chairs moved to the Riley Outpatient Center in 2000. It is currently directed by Brian J. Sanders, DDS, MS, Professor of Pediatric Dentistry. Residents provide care for children while completing their two-year Advanced Education Program in Pediatric Dentistry. The clinic is staff by multiple full-time faculty members as well as several part-time faculty members: many of which are board certified in pediatric dentistry. The clinic provides routing and specialized healthcare for children and patients with disabilities. |
