Every patient's visit will be based upon their individual needs, but the following are some things you may expect to happen when at a CF Clinic appointment:

Check – In with Receptionist

  • We will know you have arrived
  • Your opportunity to provide us with any updates in information, such as change of address, change of phone, or change of insurance

 

Measurement of Weight and Length/Height

  • This is always completed without shoes.

 

Testing

Pulmonary Functions

  • Spirometry
  • Oximeter reading

Laboratory

  • Blood work which may include:
    • Vitamin Levels
    • Liver Function
  • Urine
  • Sputum or respiratory culture
  • Stool
    • Fecal elastase, to assess pancreatic function

X-Ray/Radiology

  • Chest x-ray

 

Meet with the Following Disciplines

Physician

  • Medical exam and review of systems
  • Prescriptions for any new or continued treatment plan

Nurse

Dietitian

  • Review of weight and BMI status
  • Review of eating practices
  • Review of pancreatic enzymes and vitamins
  • Stool/GI history
  • Recommendations for improving/maintaining nutritional status

Respiratory Care

  • Review of respiratory treatments and medications
  • Review of order of therapy
  • Recommendations for improving/maintaining respiratory status

Social Worker

  • Assistance with insurance/financial concerns
  • Assistance with personal concerns that relate to CF

Research

  • Available to review studies you may enroll in to benefit those with CF

 

Check Out

  • Make your appointment for your next visit
  • You will receive a summary of your medications

 

Follow Up Letter

  • Approximately 1-2 weeks after your clinic visit, you will receive a letter that summarizes our recommendations for your treatment care plan
