Comprehensive Treatment Plan
Typically, treatment at Charis Center will include the following areas: Information is provided and skills are developed to normalize nutrition and stabilize physical health. Awareness of unhealthy cultural messages about weight, appearance, and performance is encouraged, and patients learn to challenge these messages. Inability to cope with stress stimulates use of the eating disorder, so stress management techniques are practiced. Rather than putting all of their efforts into pleasing other people, patients also learn to nurture themselves. Because having meaningful relationships is part of a healthy life, understanding relationship patterns and making changes to improve them are encouraged. To this end, we invite family members to collaborate with us, sometimes in sessions and, alternatively, in family support group to learn strategies to help loved ones and to understand their own reactions to eating disorders. Many individuals with eating disorders struggle with coexisting conditions such as depression, anxiety, obsessive compulsive symptoms, or reaction to past experiences of trauma. Our multidisciplinary team is also experienced in providing treatment for these concerns. To provide the best care to all of our patients, the services at The Charis Center are available by appointment only.
