Alcohol

Get the Facts...

  • The law states that I must be 21 to purchase or consume alcohol.
  • Those who begin drinking before they are 15 will be more likely to depend on alcohol than me because I will wait until I am at least 21.
  • Once absorbed, alcohol stays in my body for several hours.
  • Alcohol kills people daily. Many fatal car wrecks are caused by a drunk driver, so if I drink and drive I am hurting more than myself.
  • Alcohol also causes me to make decisions or say things that I may regret afterwards.

Alcohol and My Body...

  • Alcohol travels through my body and affects every part. After entering my mouth it gets into my bloodstream and travels to my brain, stomach, internal organs, kidneys, liver and even my muscles. It doesn't miss anything.
  • Alcohol is a depressant, which slows down my brain and nervous system.
  • Alcohol can cause cirrhosis or scarring of my liver as well as liver cancer if I drink over a long period of time.
  • Drinking too much alcohol can result in alcohol poisoning, which could kill me.
  • I want to grow to be tall and in shape, but if I drink alcohol before my 21st birthday, I probably won't be because it keeps my muscles and bones from developing properly, which could stunt my growth.
  • Alcohol makes it harder for my body to fight off diseases. This means that I will probably be sick more often than my friends and then I won't get to hang out and do all of the things that they do.
