Who can volunteer?

  • You must be at least 16 years old, if applying during the school year.
  • The Teen Connect Summer of Service program accepts volunteers 14-19 years old.
  • College students and adults of all ages.
  • Anyone with a desire to volunteer in a healthcare environment, including active working adults, retirees, senior citizens, those with disabilities, and survivors.

Do I need special skills to be a volunteer?

  • Some opportunities require specialized skills; others do not.
  • We welcome volunteers of varying abilities; if you have skills that you feel would benefit our program, we encourage you to apply today.

When are volunteers needed?

  • Seven days a week
  • Some opportunities are available as early as 6 a.m. or as late as 10 p.m.

How long is the volunteer commitment?

  • Some opportunities are available as early as 6 a.m. or as late as 10 p.m. The minimum commmitment varies based on each volunteer program. For many of our programs we require a committment of 33 hours over a three month period.

What kind of volunteer work is needed?

  • Direct Patient Contact
  • Indirect Patient Contact
  • Clerical/Administrative
  • Spiritual/religious

Can I choose the Clarian Health facility I prefer?

  • Assignments are based on volunteer preference and availability.

Will I receive training?

  • Yes, trained personnel will orient, educate, and train you for your assignment.

What are the benefits of volunteering?

  • Quarterly Volunteer Newsletter mailed to active volunteers.
  • Free annual Tuberculosis screening and free flu shots.
  • Annual volunteer recognition awards presented for hours worked. A gala event to say "thank you" for a job well done!
  • Insurance coverage for any reasonable and/or necessary expenses for medical care resulting from an injury in the course and scope of volunteer activities, and which are not covered by the volunteer's own insurance, will be reimbursed.

We have opportunities at Riley Hospital for Children. All volunteer applications are processed at the Volunteer Services office at Indiana University Hospital. Interviews are held at Methodist, IU and Riley.

When an application is received, applicants are personally interviewed and background checks are conducted.

Pending results, applicants are invited to attend an evening or weekend orientation. Following the orientation, volunteers are given their assignment and start date.
