Rescorla Named Pediatric Surgery ChiefFrederick J. Rescorla, M.D., has been appointed director of the Indiana University School of Medicine's Section of Pediatric Surgery and surgeon-in-chief at Riley Hospital for Children. Dr. Rescorla, assumed his new duties in June, 2005 succeeds Jay L. Grosfeld, M.D., as surgeon-in-chief, who was the only director to hold that position following his appointment in 1972. A graduate of the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine, Dr. Rescorla specializes in minimally invasive surgery and pediatric surgical oncology. He is expected to be nominated as the Lafayette F. Page Professor of Surgery upon Dr. Grosfeld's retirement; Dr. Rescorla currently holds the rank of professor in the IU Department of Surgery. Dr. Rescorla, who joined the IU medical faculty in 1988, has been recognized many times by IU medical students as an outstanding teacher. He has received numerous other outstanding teaching awards and the IU Trustees Teaching Award. A fellow in American College of Surgeons and the American Pediatric Surgical Association, Dr. Rescorla also has memberships in several surgical organizations including the Society of University Surgeons, the Central Surgical Association, the British Association of Pediatric Surgeons and the Association of Academic Surgeons. |
