INDIANAPOLIS - Pediatric cardiology experts from around the world will gather at the Indiana University School of Medicine for the second Riley Heart Center Symposium on Cardiac Development Sept. 14-15 at Riley Hospital for Children.
The symposium, organized by faculty of the Riley Heart Center, Anthony B. Firulli, Ph.D; Simon J. Conway, Ph.D, and Randall L. Caldwell, MD, is targeted to basic scientists, clinical cardiologists and heart surgeons. It will focus on issues pertaining to cardiovascular development with a specific look at transcriptional regulation of heart development.
Speakers from the Indiana University School of Medicine include: Anthony B. Firulli, PhD, "A bHLH code for cardiac morphogenesis," Simon J. Conway, PhD, "Mouse models of human CHD's," and Tiffanie Johnson, "Conotruncal defects: a clinical imaging perspective." Other researchers from the United States, Germany and the United Kingdom will discuss the latest in cardiovascular patterning and remodeling the valves and heart. Other sessions will cover early heart morphogenesis, pre- and post-transcriptional regulation and congenital heart defects. Attendees may earn Continuing Medical Education (CME) credits for participation.
Proceedings from the symposium will be published in a future issue of Pediatric Cardiology.
The Riley Heart Center is comprised of the section of Cardiovascular Surgery and the section of Pediatric Cardiology (located within Riley Hospital for Children), and the Riley Heart Research Center, which is located in the Herman B Wells Center for Pediatric Research in the Department of Pediatrics at the IU School of Medicine.
