Dr. Suzanne Bowyer, Professor of Pediatrics IU School of Medicine and Director of the Section of Pediatric Rheumatology at Riley Hospital was honored with the 2009 Humanitarian Award by the Indiana Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation. This award was presented to Dr. Bowyer during the chapters' annual Fire and Ice Gala March 21st, 2009. The award was presented to Dr. Bowyer by Pat Milner, Chair of the Indiana Chapter Arthritis Foundation Board of Directors. The award is not given annually, but rather is awarded when the Arthritis Foundation finds a person who is truly a worthy candidate.
Dr. Bowyer's steadfast dedication to the children of Indiana with rheumatologic disorders was recognized by the foundation. Riley Hospital has one of the largest and best Pediatric Rheumatology programs in the United States. Dr. Bowyer received her MD and completed her Pediatric residency at the University of Michigan and completed her fellowship at the University of Colorado. She served on the faculty at the University of Michigan, University of Colorado and the University of Southern California before joining IU School of Medicine/Riley Hospital Department of Pediatrics in 1991. She directed the Pediatric Residency Program at IUSM/Riley for 10 years. She is recognized as an outstanding teacher and clinician.
